I’ve made one of my marketing missions for 2019 to get more publicity for my business, and if you want to command higher fees and attract affluent dog owners in your town then you need to do the same thing….
Here’s the ‘Be The Expert’ module from my ‘Walk Yourself Wealthy -Dog Walkers Business Course to explain why you need to be the expert dog walker, dog trainer or dog groomer in your town;
There are two action points from this ‘Be The Expert’ blog series.
Action Point Number One – Get in the Paper!
I’m not suggesting you rob a bank or steal a car. All publicity is not good publicity.
But it shouldn’t be too hard for you to get your dog walking business in your local (and maybe a national) paper. It could even be as simple as sending a press release about your business.
Chances are you will have to be a bit more creative though, so buy a few copies of your local paper and check out the type of dog stories they are writing about regularly.
These are the stories that people are obviously reading, so if you can put a twist on one of those, then you are halfway there. Then be persistent (but not a dick). Follow up with the journalist and send the press release out a few times to a few different journalists. If your story is interesting enough, then eventually someone will bite.
I’ve been featured numerous times in my local paper and radio. BBC Radio Newcastle came and spent the afternoon with me and my adventure crew. They posted this great video on their Facebook page;
Action Point Number Two – Write your book!
I know, I know, you can’t write a book; you simply don’t have the time or anything to write about.
Wrong, mon ami, you need to make time for this, and if you are great at what you do (and you want to be considered an expert), then you should have no problem talking passionately about your expert subject, which is essentially what you will be doing in your book.
Remember, it’s not about how big it is – it’s what you do with it that matters (oo err missus).
There are loads of opportunities out there to be published. One of my Diamond coaching members Suzanne Gould had her premium dog walking business Edinburgh Holistic Dogs featured in a Dog Walkers all over of the World book.
Don’t be intimidated by the fact that its a “book”, think of it as a short guide that will help your prospects solve a small part of a problem.
You will find once you start writing that it will probably expand and you will want to include many other topics. Getting started is the key though. If you want to find out more about how you can write a book that will transform your pet business, then you should grab a copy of Walk Yourself Wealthy because it includes access to four amazing resources including a book writing masterclass with me and Vicky Fraser.
Don’t wait for the muse to land on your shoulder and grant you inspiration, or you will be waiting a very long time.
This blog is an extract from a chapter of the pet business bible ‘Walk Yourself Wealthy – The quick, easy and no BS guide to transform your passion for pooches into an outrageously profitable and fun dog walking business.’
